Overview:

The new year unfolds with all our hopes and despairs. We use our intellect to choose our way. Yet we are affected by many outside forces. Although this is an astrology column, we are as affected by the seasons as we are by the stars. Even while living in climate controlled homes, walking on cement sidewalks, and eating foods out of season, we are influenced by the changing seasons. Winter is a time of going inward. A time of evaluation. A time of loneliness for some. A time of deep contentment for others. There is an introspective need to evaluate and sort. There is a natural order and pattern that leads us eventually to the rebirth of Spring. In Vancouver, dead and decaying plant matter, dense cloud cover, grey ocean, grey rain and cold damp will remind us all that time passes. Periods end. We can choose to be in alignment with these times. We can evaluate what is working and celebrate. We notice what is no longer serving us and look for new ways, new tools, new points of view. We also affect each other. Profoundly. The Dalai Lama tells us that “The basic foundation of humanity is compassion and love. That is why, even if a few individuals simply try to create mental peace and happiness within themselves and act responsibly and kindhearted towards others,they will have a positive influence in their community.” As we do our evaluations and look within, let’s be sure love and compassion are our foundation. Every day, a little more light shines down upon us.

Aries (I am)  – March 20 into April 20
Wishful thinking will not solve much for the Ram. Imagination is a delightful seasoning, not the whole course. Your strength is in your ideas, if you allow them space to become real. This time period is not about pleasing others. Choose what works for you.

Taurus (I have) – April 20 into May 21
Taurus are at a place of power. Utilize it to your best advantage. There is an element of risk taking, so judicious caution is good. The amount of satisfaction you can take from the richness of your current world is equal to the amount of fuel will you have, to propel you forward.

Gemini (I think) – May 21 into June 21
Are you finished with living life vicariously? Step to centre stage and let your ideas roll. Be reasonable, but be assertive. Control issues are highlighted. Yes, dear Gemini, you can be a curious mix of too little, too much. Strive for balance.

Cancer (I feel) – June 21 into July 22
This is a time of new beginnings for the Crab. So don’t get caught up in what didn’t work out in the past. Patience is your watchword. With your own feet planted firmly on the ground, you can witness some chaotic tendencies around you. Be aware rather than involved.

Leo (I will) – July 22 into August 23
This period is about balance and choice. Taking on too much may topple you, dear Lion King. Waiting on the sidelines for the fanfare of trumpets to herald you in may also leave you missing the point. Focus. Judicious action. Patience.

Virgo (I analyze) – August 23 into Sept. 23
Virgo needs to examine the difference between patience and inertia. Be open to the council of others. Complacency is a poor substitute for your curiosity and sense of adventure. “I don’t know” is a statement of strength for you now.

Libra (I balance) – Sept. 23 into October 23
Lessons learned. These are your sources of wealth, for now. There is a tendency to look for problems and overlook all you have gained. Avoid exaggeration. Take what you know out for a test drive. You have a green light.

Scorpio (I create) – Oct. 23 into November 22
Movement underscores your decisions now. Making the effort allows for growth and change. Expect windows of opportunity. There is an element of perseverance to your journey. Take the small steps needed, rather than waiting for the fanfare of drama to move you.

Sagittarius (I see) – Nov. 22 into Dec. 21
The gift and burden of the Centaur is the ability to see, to perceive, to notice. The responsibility now is to direct your sight. This time is ripe with reward for the Centaur who gazes with confidence and honesty at his circumstances.

Capricorn (I use) – Dec. 21 into Jan. 20
An epiphany of faith is available for the asking. Will  you ask?What matters to you? Start there. The Goat is given an extra boost of power to shift burdens and stabilize goals. Refuse to live on the edge of your life, especially now.

Aquarius (I know) – Jan. 20 into Feb. 19
The odds favour Aquarius at this time. Count your blessings, and bless the world with your endeavors. The trick will be to stay balanced. Too tight a hold on certainty squeezes the lifeblood out of harmony and flow.

Pisces (I believe) – Feb. 19 into March 20
Pisces is in for a learning curve. How do you handle yourself when life presents you with imperfections? Problems. You are one of many and although you cannot do it all, you must do your part. Plan a hunt. Your quarry is stubbornness.
